History of the Sculpture

In 1881, Rodin was commissioned by the Ministry of Fine Arts to sculpt Adam and Eve. Adam’s strong muscles contrast with his tormented, downward-pointing pose, showing earthly bonds.
Although Rodin pioneered modern sculpture, he respected tradition and trained as a craftsman. He sought academic recognition but never entered Paris’s top art school. Rodin skillfully modeled complex, textured surfaces in clay, which sparked criticism. He shifted from mythology to focus on realism and individual character. Despite controversy, Rodin stayed true to his style. By 1900, his bold work gained recognition, making him a celebrated artist worldwide.
